Bhubaneswar: Indian and Orissa-origin cricketer Anshuman Rath has been selected as the vice-captain of the Hong Kong (HK) cricket team for the World Cup qualifiers.
The wicket-keeper made his ODI debut for Hong Kong in 2014. He was born here and stayed in Satya Nagar locality. However, his parents Bhawani Shankar and Sujata shifted to Hong Kong in the 1990s to pursue their business ambitions and Anshuman also changed his destination with them. The move has turned out to be great as he has been made the deputy skipper of the side three years after making his international debut.
The 20-year attacking batsman is quiet confident about the team qualifying for the mega event. “I am optimistic that our team will qualify for the World Cup. The qualifiers will be pretty tough. But we are quiet focused and have prepared well. We have the potential to trouble all the other teams in the competition,” Anshuman has been quoted as saying by a website.
Anshuman has so far played 10 ODI matches scoring 382 runs with four fifties at an average of 42.44 with a strike rate of 73.32 and a highest score of 97.
