Dhenkanal: Five tankers loaded with petrol and diesel were gutted in a major fire Monday evening in Dhenkanal district, officials said. The incident occurred in Karanda area under Rasol police limits, where the tankers had been parked inside the premises of a stone crusher unit. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Firefighting teams from Khajuriakata, Hindol Road and Rasol rushed to the spot after receiving information and launched efforts to bring the blaze under control. A robotic monitor team from the Angul fire station was also pressed into service.
The intensity of the flames from the five tankers triggered panic among local residents, who gathered at a distance as firefighters battled the blaze. District Fire Officer Prashant Kumar Dhal, who was present at the site, said the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. “All five tankers were loaded with petrol and diesel. An investigation is underway to determine how the fire broke out,” he said.

Additional firefighting units from Tata Steel, Rungta Mines and GMR Kamalanga later joined the operation, following which the fire was brought under control. Hindol Sub-Collector and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer were also present at the scene to supervise the situation. No casualties were reported in the incident.
