BHUBANESWAR: A blend of music and dance was the main treat on the third and fourth days of the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Award Festival at Rabindra Mandap here Wednesday and Thursday. On the third day, 10 music wonders of the state captivated the audience with their group recitals. More interesting themes followed on the fourth day. ‘Shivagni’, a musical ensemble, presented eight musical themes at the show.
They began with a recital that depicted ‘the colour of creativity’ dedicated to the Srjan family — Satchidananda Das, Kulamani Sahoo, Srinibas Satapathy, Agnimitra Behera, Kshiti Prikash Mohapatra, Biswaranjan Nanda, Deba Ranjan Nayak, Ramesh Chandra Behera, Samir Ranjan Pradhan and Bikashita Sahu. Discussing about the title, Shivagni Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra said, “Shivagni is the combination of Shivu (nick name of Ratikanta Mohapatra) and Agni (Agnimitra Behera). We together thought of bringing all talented musicians of the state together at this show to showcase their talents.” Ratikanta also wished that debutant Shivagni that began its journey from Bhubaneswar may eventually and in due course travel across the world. The dignitaries present were eminent classical singer Gopal Chandra Panda, composer and flutist Rakesh Chaurasia, finance and excise minister Sashibhusan Behera, and W&CD minister Prafulla Samal. Sanjukta Sinha mesmerised the audience with her Kathak storytelling. One of the leading Kathak artistes of her generation, A leading Kathak artist of her generation, Sanjukta Sinha created goosebumps to spectators at the packed hall as she featured various Kathak recitals Friday. She presented the recital on teen taal (16 beats rhythm cycle) that was based on two Bandish. The first bandish was vilambit bandish that was set to Sudha raga while the second was Raag Yaman bandish. She has also performed in ensembles and collaborated with several leading international names across various dance forms. Accompanying Sanjukta were Mohit Gangani in tabla, Ashish Gangani in pakhawaj, Samiullah Khan in vocal and Kamal Khan in sarangi. Sanjukta Sinha is renowned for her technical expertise and immense artistry. The second presentation featured worldrenowned Carnatic vocalist sisters Ranjani Balasubramanian and Gayatri Balasubramanian.
