Young dancer Susanket Mishra has enthralled one and all by his mesmerising moves
Orissa has many rising stars who are making a mark on the dance scene. Susanket Mishra, Class X student of BJEM School, is one of those whose passion is to create magic on the dance floor. He puts his heart and soul into every performance. He has recently won the title of Dance Odisha Dance. Besides, he has stormed into the Guinness World Records for head and body revolution. Fondly called Susu by Mithun Da on the sets of ‘Dance India Dance’, Susanket is a budding dancer who is raring to go.
Hailing from Bhubaneswar, Susanket began dancing when he was just two years old. He secured entry into the first season of ‘Dance India Dance Little Master’ at the age of four. He was in the top 32. Sharing a memorable moment in DID, Susanket said, “I was in the top 32 and excited to perform to make it to the top 10. I worked hard to give my best. It was a day left to the mega round when I was down with 104 degree fever. I could not make it to the top 10 due to my illness. I felt really bad. That day I cried a lot. I will never forget the moment.”
In ‘DID season 2’, Susanket was able to make it to the top 10. What is interesting about Susanket is that he is a classical dancer. He is a scholarship holder in Odissi dance. He has completed post graduation in Odissi but is also good at every dance form, be it classical, hip-hop, popping, salsa or contemporary. He has wowed judges, Govinda and Mithun Chakroborty, with his dance steps.
Asked what was the best compliment he had received, Susanket replied: “After watching my performance on the sets of ‘Dance Odisha Dance’, Govinda, who was invited as a special guest on the show, said ‘I want to see this boy in Bollywood. He will rock’.”
That’s not all. The child artiste, son of businessman Pradip and Odissi dancer Sanjukta Mishra, has appeared in films like ACP Sagarika, Omm Sairam and Sandehi Priyatama. He received the best child artiste award for his brilliant performance in Sandehi Priyatama. Besides, he is equally popular in the television industry. His portrayal of the character ‘Jaydev’ in the mega soap ‘Jay Jagannath’ aired on Tarang brought him kudos.
Apart from winning the ‘Dance Odisha Dance’ title, he won the dancing reality show ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum’ aired on MBC.
Asked about his inspirations, the rising star said: “My mama, an Odissi dancer, is my biggest inspiration. I used to imitate her when I was a kid. I loved her dance steps and slowly got attracted towards dance. What I like most about mama is she spends sleepless nights preparing me and my costumes so that I can give my best during every performance.”
Asked who would he like to attribute his success to, the dancer said: “I owe my success to my mother and elder brother, a BBA student. They boost my morale every time I step on the stage. They never left me alone during a stage performance. They have accompanied me wherever I have performed. They are both my guide and inspiration”, says Susanket who learned Odissi under the tutelage of noted exponent Aruna Mohanty.
