Bhubaneswar, Jan 24: The 8th State-Level Kalinga Herbal Fair kicked off at Exhibition Ground in the city Saturday.
Organised by the State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB), the fair aims to promote the use of traditional Indian medicines.
Around 40 stalls were put up on the ground which showcased diverse products related to health and horticulture. The fair was inaugurated by Upendra Nath, additional chief secretary in the presence of Hari Shankar Upadhyaya, chief executive of the SMPB.
“The main aim of the event is to promote the use of herbal products. Makers of these products can interact with customers and can promote their products. This will give them a good platform to reach out to consumers,” Nath said.
“This event will help create awareness among the masses over the use of herbal products. This will also help promoters of such products to have detailed discussions with each other. There are also some medicinal plants on show which can educate visitors on the medicinal uses of several plants. Orissa is home to many valuable plants but not many people are aware of it. This event will also help them know the virtue of these plants,” Upadhyaya said.
Navita Mishra, who put up a herbal beauty products stall, said there was greater demand for herbal products. “Demand for herbal beauty products has gained impetus in the last few years. Consumers are now aware of the harmful side-effects of artificial cosmetics. I often come for such fairs. People love to buy natural products from me. I personally prepare these products at home to ensure quality,” Mishra said.
