Keonjhar/Anandapur/Hatadihi: A man was critically injured after a bear attacked him and mauled his private parts in Keonjhar district Thursday.
The victim was identified as Prakash Barik of Kolimati village under Ghasipura police limits in Anandapur subdivision. The incident took place when Prakash had gone to graze his goats near a forest in the morning.
He was returning home around noon when a bear suddenly attacked him. The animal mauled his private parts and inflicted injuries to his head with its claws. Hearing his screams, villagers rushed to the spot, prompting the bear to flee into the forest.
Family members rescued the critically injured youth and admitted him to the Anandapur sub-divisional hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to Cuttack for advanced treatment. On being informed, Forest Department personnel reached the spot and launched an investigation.
Villagers have demanded immediate government assistance for the injured youth, a poor goat herder.
