Bheden: Close on the heels of road-overbridge collapse in Bhubaneswar last fortnight another bridge under construction between Jamdole and Dhubenpali road near here caved in Sunday afternoon, injuring at least seven workers on the spot.
While the injured have been shifted to Bargarh district headquarters hospital, 26-km from the spot, three engineers in charge of the project have been suspended by the government.
Rural Development Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh said the government has suspended the Bargarh division executive engineer over the issue. An assistant executive engineer of the division and the junior engineer monitoring the project have been put under suspension.
“We have asked the superintending engineer to rush to the spot and monitor the situation. Our chief engineer (rural works) Bharat Charan Pradhan will visit the spot and investigate the incident. Both the officials will submit a report to government,” Rural Development Secretary Bishnupada Sethi told Orissa POST.
Bargarh district collector Khagendra Kumar Padhi, who visited the hospital, directed the authorities to ensure proper treatment to the injured.
The injured workers have been identified as Ashwini Ghadei, Rajat Naik, Surendra Naik, Narada Naik, Papeswara Bag and Pramod Sahu of Kotapali in Bargarh district and Tikeswara Sahoo of Jharsuguda district.
