With the festive season around the bend, it is time to go shop-hopping for puja. Festivals are special occasions for all of us as it’s the perfect time to celebrate with our close friends and relatives. It is the perfect time to flaunt our festive attires. And when it comes to the festive look, people take pride in flaunting traditional wear.
The elegance and charm of Indian ethnic wear have not lost sheen, and occidental culture has always been fascinated by the glamour and magnificence of popular ethnic outfits – sari, salwar-suit and lehenga. With the innovation and introduction of new trends and fashion, talented fashion designers have blended western and ethnic sensibilities and gave birth to fusion wear which took the global fashion world by surprise. The elegant trends, cuts and comfort aspect of western wear were blended with the traditional finery and glamour, and it naturally notched up the popularity of Indian ethnic wear in the global market.
Sunday POST spoke to a few Bhubaneswar-based fashion designers to know about their new collection ahead of Durga puja.
Reemly Mohanty says, “When it comes to the festive season, it’s all about keeping it traditional. Be it any age group from kids to teenagers to adults, the festive season lights up the mood of every single person and Durga puja is an annual festival that offers a chance for people to adorn themselves in their best and unique attires.
“Young girls want to keep it traditional by wearing bright lehengas with light embellishment or plain anarkali suits with a heavy embroidered dupatta or an Indo-western gown to sparkle on a garba night. And when it comes to Navratri and garba nights, mirror-embellished attires like a simple mirror kutch work jacket on a plain kurti or a mirror work skirt with a crop top is a perfect look,” says Reemly.
Reemly offers a few tips for sari lovers too. India has the best handloom with a vast variety, so keep it traditional by draping yourself with a beautiful six-yard fabric whether it’s a Bengali tant sari, Bailou, Uppada silk, ikaat, Bhagalpuri or Kalamkari. Everyone has their own preferences of selecting their own saris and making it their own style.
“Men can keep it simple with some tie printed shirts or some stripes and checks. Apart from that, you can also wear T-shirts for simplicity and convenience with jeans. Every year, dressing for men remains same like casual shirts, kurta pyjama, churidar kurta, Nehru jackets and blazers. However, now there are a lot of designs in kurtas. So, choose the best and most attractive one for you,” she adds.
Reemly’s Design Studio has an impressive range that features coveted designs personifying elegance and grace. “With us you can customise your own festive look this season. Whether you’re in the mood for some monochrome magic or solid colours, or if you’re on the look out for some contemporary pieces — make sure you take home unique, one-of-a-kind outfits,” she says.
