Sonpur: An octogenarian was killed while two women sustained critical injuries in two separate incidents of wall collapse under Birma Harajpur police limits in Subarnapur district Sunday afternoon.
In the first incident, the 80-year-old man was killed while his wife sustained critical injuries after a rain-soaked wall of their house collapsed on them at Nayakpada under Birmaharajpur police limits.
The deceased was identified as Sadananda Nayak, 80, of Nayakpada village under Ulunda block.
His wife, Premashila Nayak, 75, sustained critical injuries.
The couple had been living alone as their three sons and their families reside outside the village.
Prolonged rain had weakened the walls of their old house, which had not been repaired.
The wall suddenly gave way, trapping the elderly couple beneath the debris.
Villagers could rescue Premashila, while Sadananda remained buried.
