Bhopal: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a detailed 636-page chargesheet in the high-profile case related to the suicide of Twisha Sharma. The agency has named former judge Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh, as the accused.

Both are currently lodged in jail under judicial custody.

According to sources, the CBI has pressed charges of dowry death and demand for dowry against the two accused. The comprehensive chargesheet has been submitted under sections 80(2), 85, 108 and 3(5) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), along with sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The filing of this extensive document marks a significant development in the investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death in Bhopal. The CBI has invoked the relevant legal provisions to prosecute those allegedly involved in the offences of demanding dowry and the subsequent death linked to it.

Investigators have compiled a voluminous chargesheet spanning 636 pages, indicating the depth of the probe conducted by the central agency. Sources familiar with the matter said the agency examined multiple aspects of the case before finalising the chargesheet.

Giribala Singh and her son, Samarth Singh’s continued incarceration points to the seriousness with which the authorities have treated the allegations.

Meanwhile, both have sought bail in the High Court.

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old former model and actress (earlier Miss Pune) from Greater Noida, married Bhopal-based advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025. Samarth is the son of Giribala Singh, a retired district judge who had served in Bhopal.

On the night of May 12, Twisha was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills (also referred to as Bagmugalia) area of Bhopal. Her husband told authorities she had hanged herself around 10:20 p.m. She was taken to AIIMS Bhopal and declared brought dead.

The post-mortem reported the cause of death as asphyxia due to ante-mortem hanging by ligature and noted multiple ante-mortem injuries (contusions on the arm, finger and head).

Twisha’s family alleged prolonged dowry-related harassment, mental and physical cruelty, and pressure linked to her pregnancy (discovered around April 2026). They cited WhatsApp chats in which she expressed distress, asked to be taken away from Bhopal, and reported her husband shouting at her shortly before the call disconnected on the evening of her death.

The family also raised questions about the handling of the body and possible evidence issues.

An FIR was registered against Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 80(2) (dowry death), 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives) and 3(5) (common intention), along with sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act

The Madhya Pradesh government recommended a CBI probe; the Supreme Court also took cognisance and directed the agency to take over.

The CBI re-registered the case and arrested both accused (Samarth first, Giribala after the Madhya Pradesh High Court quashed her anticipatory bail). The accused have maintained that the death was a suicide.

Giribala Singh and Samarth have disputed certain CBI claims (including on voice samples) and denied dowry demands, with the defence pointing to other factors such as alleged personal distress.

The CBI has conducted scene recreation, forensic examination and digital analysis. Both accused remain in judicial custody. A special CBI court had directed that the chargesheet be filed by August 17.
