Nimapada: Hundreds of students of Nimapara Autonomous College launched a protest Wednesday over a 10-point charter of demands.
The students locked the College’s two main gates and staged a demonstration, raising slogans over their basic rights and other demands.
They later submitted a 10-point memorandum to college Principal Rajkishore Mishra.
Student leaders held detailed discussions with the principal on their demands.
These included an immediate ban on the unauthorised entry of outsiders into the college and adequate security for students; uninterrupted drinking water supply and regular cleaning of toilets; adequate security at the hostels; replacement of non-functional lights on the campus; provision of a common room for students; exemption from examination fees; steps to accord government college status to Nimapara Autonomous College; and installation of CCTV cameras across the campus.
The students also demanded measures to improve basic facilities and security on the campus.
The protest was withdrawn after the principal assured the students that their demands would be considered.
