Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy Saturday slammed “successive governments’’ at the Centre and the state for ignoring farmers.
Taking up the poverty issue and citing a cause for the same, the senior leader took to Twitter and said that the development of farmers should be accorded priority as the bulk population of Orissa are into agriculture. He lamented that state governments and the Centre had ignored them.
“Many question why Orissa is poor amongst plenty. Bulk population agriculturist. Not entrepreneurs. Successive Fed+State govts ignored farmers,’’ went Satpathy’s tweet.
The BJD parliamentarian was of the view opinion that money alone can bring respect to the farmers.
“Shouldn’t system offer opportunities that people can excel at? Our culture is not industrial. Money alone will fetch respect for farmers,’’ his tweet stated.
Another tweet of Satpathy went on to say: “Farmer with money can attract top medicare, education entertainment facilities near home. No one would approve. Blasphemous.’’
Reacting to Satpathy’s tweets, state agriculture minister Damodar Rout claimed that the state government is committed to the development of the agriculture sector and several policies have been framed to extend benefits to the farmers in recent times. PNN
