Ganjam: Odisha Vigilance team conducted a raid at Khallikote police station in Ganjam district Friday and caught ASI Sujeet Panigrahi red-handed while allegedly accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe.
According to reports, Panigrahi had allegedly demanded money from a complainant, threatening to arrest him in connection with a case. The complainant subsequently approached the Vigilance Department.
The Vigilance team then laid a trap and caught Panigrahi red-handed while he was allegedly accepting Rs 15,000 from the complainant Friday. The bribe money was seized.
The ASI was detained, and further investigation is underway. Action is being taken against him as per law.
Panigrahi had been posted at Khallikote police station for the past one year.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to Panigrahi as part of a disproportionate assets (DA) investigation.
