Bhubaneswar: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has granted accreditation for postgraduate medical education programmes at several government health institutions in Odisha, opening up 17 new seats in paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthesiology and medicine. Under the latest recognition, five district headquarters hospitals (DHH) — Jagatsinghpur, Jeypore in Koraput, Phulbani in Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and Rayagada — have been accredited to offer diploma courses in Paediatrics.
Each hospital will have two seats, taking the total to 10 seats. The District Headquarters Hospital, Jagatsinghpur, and District Headquarters Hospital, Angul, have also received accreditation to offer diploma courses in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Jagatsinghpur will have two seats while Angul will have one, taking the total to three seats in the discipline.
Besides, the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, Koraput, has received NBEMS accreditation for four DNB seats in Anaesthesiology and Medicine. The latest accreditation is expected to expand opportunities for specialist medical training at the district level and contribute to strengthening healthcare delivery, particularly in remote and underserved areas of the state.
