Bhubaneswar: Domestic Piped Natural Gas (DPNG) connections are set to reach households across Bhubaneswar, offering residents a convenient, affordable and safe alternative to LPG cylinders, said Bhubaneswar Member of Parliament Aparajita Sarangi while inaugurating the first domestic PNG connection at Assotech World, a residential complex comprising 2,000 flats near Pahala here Tuesday.
The initiative has been launched by the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL). At present, approximately 1,100 flats in Avenue-01 of the modern residential complex have been completed, while more than 600 flats have already been handed over to residents.
According to GAIL, PNG connections are expected to be provided to all households in the complex within the next three to four months. During her visit, Sarangi interacted with residents of the high-rise residential towers and expressed happiness over the launch of the facility. Residents also raised several civic and infrastructure-related concerns, including the need for an improved sewage system, construction of service roads, better street lighting and a foot overbridge. Sarangi assured residents of her cooperation in addressing these issues and said she would extend the necessary support to facilitate their resolution.
The MP also highlighted the benefits of using DPNG for cooking as an alternative to conventional LPG cylinders. She emphasised that piped natural gas offers greater convenience and can be an economical option for households, while stressing the importance of its wider adoption. Senior GAIL officials, including General Manager Kaushik Basu and Senior Manager SR Mohanty, attended the programme. Former MLA from North Bhubaneswar Priyadarshi Mishra, MP’s representative Pranaya Karan and other officials were also present. Emphasising her commitment to development and public service, Sarangi said she was pleased to spend time with residents, listen to their concerns and engage with them directly to understand their needs.
