Bhanjanagar: Security arrangements in Bhanjanagar were tightened ahead of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit here November 17.
During his visit, the CM would distribute government sops to at least 30,000 handicapped persons in the district, reports said. He would provide tri-cycles, hearing aid machines, pensions, land pattas and pucca houses to the beneficiaries.
Keeping in mind the CM’s schedule, the administration swung into action. Bikram Keshari Arukha, minister of rural development, parliamentary affairs and information & public relations Saturday visited Kabisamrat Upendra Bhanja College ground, the venue of the CM’s meeting, to monitor the arrangements.
Ganjam district collector Premchand Chaudhary, sub-collector Laxmikant Sethy, SDPO Utkal Keshari Das, BDO Subrat Behera, tehsildar Sambit Rout, Bhanjanagar additional magistrate Laxman Kumar Soren and other officials accompanied Arukh to the ground.
This would be a record making programme and will attract huge crowd. To avoid any sort of violence, we have planned to hold the programme at three places in Bhanjanagar, Hinjilicut and Berhampur respectively, the officials said.
Special arrangements have been made for the movement of handicapped persons. ANM and Asha workers will be engaged to keep an eye on the handicapped persons until the programme concludes. The district collector warned officials of stringent action if anything goes wrong.
The CM will come in a helicopter and will lay the foundation stone of an RTO office and an ITI building at Bhanjanagar. He will also inaugurate a police quarter and a special care unit in the sub-divisional government hospital before heading for the programme.
Platoons of police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order while SPs, DSPs, police inspectors and sub-inspectors were seen busy making the arrangements. PNN
