Bhubaneswar: Triggered by a low pressure, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over coastal Orissa and adjoining Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal and Nayagarh districts during the next 24 hours.
Accordingly, the IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea as its condition is likely to be rough along and off the Orissa coast.
Local Meteorology department sources here said that the well-marked low pressure area formed over southwest Bay of Bengal and neighborhood Monday lies over west central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal this morning. It is likely to move in the north or north-northwest direction.
Due to its movement and further intensification, rain may occur in different districts, especially in coastal districts of Orissa till November 17 next.
Rains will lash Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Sundargarh November 16 and 17.
Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Puri, Nayagarh, Khurda will get light to moderate rainfall from November 14 to 17 with heavy rains at one or two locations only in Ganjam and Gajapati districts.
Strong and gusty surface wind speed from easterly direction in south Orissa and northeasterly direction in north Orissa reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting up to 65 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Orissa coast. The sea condition is likely to be rough or very rough along and off Orissa coast.
According to Skymet Weather, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to batter Orissa coast in the next 48 hours. Several places might also witness thunderstorms and moderate to intense lightning strikes, it said.
Meanwhile, the state government has advised farmers to harvest their paddy crop and store them in safe places.
