Bhubaneswar: Olympian Dutee Chand stated Tuesday that running is a great way to be in shape while speaking to reporters during the announcement of the Tata Steel Half Marathon which the city will host January 14. The official jersey for the event was also launched during the press conference at a hotel here Tuesday.
Adding glam to the programme was Oriya actors Sabyasachi Mishra and Archita Sahoo. Among others present on the occasion were Tata Steel officials Sunil Bhaskaran, Arun Misra and Rajiv Kumar.
This will be the third edition of the event which the city will be hosting. The programme will be conducted in collaboration with the state sports and youth services department. The organisers informed that the number of participants expected will be close to 5,000 in comparison to the 3,500-odd who took part in the second edition earlier this year.
The event has been divided into three segments – the half marathon (21.097km), 10km and five kilometres. The winner of the half marathon will get Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 75,000 respectively (both men and women). In the 10km race and five kilometers (for young boys and girls), the winners will get Rs 51,000 and Rs 11,000 respectively.
Dutee urged people to participate in the event. “People from every walk of life should run, age should not be a factor,” she said. “Running is a great way to keep fit.”
The half marathon will start from Kalinga Stadium and the runners will proceed towards Khandagiri Square from where they will return back to the starting point.
