Bhubaneswar: Three Oriya mountaineers have successfully completed their mountaineering course in the Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering at Darjeeling. They are Chinmaya Moharana, Anita Swain and Sasmita Pradhan.
All of them were selected by the oldest adventure institute of the state-Association for Adventure and Social Activities (AASA) for the mountaineering course. Chinmaya has successfully completed his advanced course, while Anita and Sasmita have completed their basic course in mountaineering.
The three mountaineers were selected for the course after getting valuable experience in a winter adventure festival in Manali in last September. During the course they got their training from ace mountaineer and Everest climber from Orissa Ganesh Chandra Jena.
After their training they remained in a base camp for four days and then climbed a mountain of 15,500 metres height. They also got training in rock climbing and wall climbing. In the advanced training Chinmaya and his team climbed 17,500 metres high Palung-II mountain.
“I am thankful to my trainer Ganesh sir and our principal Devidutta Panda. Both of them are Oriyas and we are grateful for their great support and care. We are fortunate to get their expertise in fine tuning our mountaineering skills. I am sure that the course and training will be helpful in our future endeavour’s,” Chinmay said.
Meanwhile Ganesh expressed satisfaction over his wards’ progress. “All of them were pretty talented and keen learners. They have bright future ahead. I am also quite happy that mountaineering is becoming more and more popular in the state,” he said.
