Bhubaneswar, Jan 30: Students of Prabhujee English Medium School Friday showcased different tableaux that depict the culture and heritage of Orissa during a road show in the city.
Ex-Governor of Assam and former chief minister Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, who was chief guest, inaugurated the road show at Master Canteen Square. The road show ended in VVS Nagar.
The students were attired in striking costumes on the occasion, drawing cheers from onlookers. “I am participating in a tableau that is based on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan theme. We want our city to be clean and green. If we are concerned about our city, we will have to involve ourselves in the process of making our city free of dirt. The road show was organised by our school today to spread awareness among the people regarding various important issues,” said Sonamika Sahoo, a student.
The road show resembled a mini version of the Republic Day parade, said many onlookers who praised the children for their disciplined performance. Students were dressed in traditional wear of various states of the country, in order to depict India’s rich heritage and its unity in diversity. “Though we belong to different cultures and states, we’re all Indians, and we’re and will always remain united,” said Jharana Das, another student.
“These tableaux are meant to serve as a medium of awareness. We wanted to convey a message to people that we are all children of this great nation and have to work together in order for our country to progress. We hope this initiative would lead us all into coming closer to one another,” said Sobhakar Fatesingh, trustee of the school.
