Baghiapada: A pair of 3-year-old twins (Kausalya and Sumant) rescued their 2-month-old twin siblings from their burning house at Bijamiari village under Ambajhari panchayat in Boudh district Friday. The children pulled off the remarkable act of bravery in the absence of their parents Friday. However, the family was not in a position to seek solace in the fact that the children were saved as they are now left shelterless and without any belongings.
According to reports, the house of Jaya Mallick and his wife Sabita caught fire at noon while the duo was away in the forest for work. They had left the four children behind as usual. It was not immediately known how the fire had broken out but it soon engulfed the whole house and reduced it to ashes. Locals rushed to the spot and tried to douse the flames while everyone forgot of the babies sleeping inside the hut. The twins somehow managed to ran inside and carry their twin brothers out of their thatched house before they could fall victim to the fire.
The family, however, has been rendered homeless and their belongings worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes. They were left without a roof above their head even as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal brought rains to the state.
Locals have demanded that the family should be provided with immediate relief. The family has shifted to a tent with polythene roofing for now. PNN
