Bhubaneswar: Acting upon an article published in Orissa POST about the problems faced by three orphan kids in Kalahandi district, the state government covered the kids under Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY).
Sushama Guru (18) of Kumbhapada village under Junagarh block in the district has given up everything to educate her two minor brothers–Karthik and Baishab after the death of her parents.
Six years ago, their father Sribasta Guru passed away following a heart attack. His wife Basanti also died soon after due to an unknown disease.
The article titled “Orphan girl shuns studies to educate minor brothers” was published in OP, December 14. Following which, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) asked Kalahandi district administration to provide benefits of government schemes to them, sources in CMO said here Saturday.
While a ration card has already been provided to Sushama, the district collector has been asked to provide a pucca house to the kids under the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojna (BPGY) soon, the source said.
Besides, the government also provided financial assistance of `10,000 to her and all facilities have been ensured for education of her two siblings. Moreover, stitching training has been provided to Sushama and soon a stitching machine will be provided to her from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), they said.
