Bhubaneswar: Orissa finished runners-up in the recently concluded 16th Federation Cup Karate Championships at the Railway Indoor Stadium here Sunday.
West Bengal emerged champions, while Karnataka secured the third position. India head of Seishinkai Karate Sihan Premjit Sen joined as the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
Orissa on back foot
Hosts Orissa were looking down the barrel against Jharkhand on the second day of their four-day match in the Cooch Behar Trophy cricket tournament at the Vikash Ground in Bargarh, Monday.
In reply to Jharkhand’s first innings total of 276, Orissa were bundled out for a meager 96. Barring Binit Kumar Mohanty (16) no other batsman could give any resistance with the bat. Sushant Mishra (4/24) turned out to be the wrecker-in-chief for the visitors.
After getting a first innings lead of 180 runs, Jharkhand started their second innings and were 106 for the loss of three wickets. Atul Singh Surwar (57 n o) and Aditya Singh (39) were occupying the crease at stumps. Rajesh Mohanty (2/15) bowled well for Orissa. Jharkhand are now sitting pretty with an overall lead of 286 runs with seven wickets remaining intact.
