Cuttack, Feb 1: A contractual lady teacher got relief from the Orissa Administrative Tribunal (OAT) with the panel ordering an interim stay on her dismissal on the issue of a class X student delivering a baby in the hostel January 23.
The district collector had ordered the dismissal of the teacher, Sasmita Parida of Lingagada Girls High School in Kandhamal district, January 25 on charges of failure to inform departmental authorities about the student’s pregnancy.
However, OAT administrative member SK Dash ordered an interim stay on the dismissal while adjudicating on a petition filed by Parida challenging the district collector’s order, according to sources.
Parida, in her petition, said the headmaster of the school is the superintendent of the hostel while she was only entrusted with the management of the hostel’s mess. She further said that despite regular health check-up of students, no doctor had ever given any report on the pregnancy of the student.
Moreover, departmental authorities had also failed to notice any such development during their inspection of the hostel in January, Parida said in her petition.
The teacher claimed that her dismissal over the incident was without reason.
OAT has sought a reply from the other parties in this regard.
