Cuttack, Feb 1: Slum-dwellers of Taanala Sahi who were evicted by the administration December 29 last year are pitching for early rehabilitation.
The slum-dwellers have threatened to launch an agitation if the district administration as well as the civic body does not take quick steps in this regard.
“Hundreds of poor families were residing at the slum for decades. The administration evicted them forcibly without providing proper rehabilitation. Now, at least 1,000 people including 300 children have taken shelter under polythene sheets along the Mahanadi ring road,” said an office-bearer of Orissa Jhopadpatti Mahasangh.
The administration should take the issue seriously and rehabilitate the slum-dwellers, he added.
