A govt officer with a heart and mind for poetry

Bhadrak: Ramesh Chandra Swain is a government officer in Bhadrak, with a heart and mind in literature.

Swain works as an officer in the statistics wing of health and family welfare department at the District Headquarters Hospital. Whenever he gets some leisure time, he engages himself in literary discussions and in writing and reciting poems which reflect a touch of modernity. Social media is his new platform to express his creativity. Thanks to his output, he has a considerable number of followers on Facebook.

Ramesh Chandra has also many books published. “Writing poems and following other creative pursuits are routine,” he added.

Mati Kandehei, Agatiragati Tu Darumurati (an anthology of poems) and a book of Bhajans have been published while several others are awaiting publication.

At the hospital, many people familiar to him seek his help in getting medical treatment. For all the hospital staff, he has been ‘Janha Mamun’ Ramesh. Though he hails from Astaranga area in Puri, he has been a known person in Bhadrak, his workplace.

“Literature will not get its right meaning if litterateurs are unable to make persistent efforts for its improvement,” he observed.

On today’s youth, he said, “The young generation who has been neglecting Odia will not make moral progress without improving their mother tongue. First, respect your own language and then learn other languages.”
