Bhubaneswar, March 12: Around 60 students of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Training (KIIT) often meet in the evenings after their hectic classroom schedules. And they never regret these after-college meetings with their like-minded friends. These 60 students from different disciplines of the University belong to a club, dedicated to developing entrepreneurship skills in young students.
The Entrepreneurship Club of the university is a formal body constituted by the college authorities after some like-minded students of the institution demanded to form a club to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship. Buoyed by the enthusiasm of the students, the institution readily agreed to form such a unit. “Students from diverse disciplines throng our club in order to get equipped with the different facets of entrepreneurship. Many seriously want to make their career in the field while others come to learn more about it so that they might take it up as a career option in future if it suits their requirements. Our club often organises seminars, meetings etc. where experts from the industry take part, these are to make maximum utlisation of the body,” says Harshal Rupani, coordinator of the club and final year student of BTech, Automobile Engineering, KIIT.
Upama Ghosh, 4th year student, BTech, Electronic and Instrumentation, says, “I seriously want to make my career in entrepreneurship. This club is playing a pivotal role in allowing me to learn the basics of entrepreneurship and start up a business. Our team often meets to discuss on the subject and we often get the chance to interact with CEOs and senior managers of some reputed organisations, who guide and train us on entrepreneurship. Through the club we get the chance to intern in some reputed organisations which gives us ample exposure in the field.”
Sneha Ramareddy, a 3rd year BTech, Computer Science student, says, “We try our best to squeeze time out from studies for the club and meet around two to three times a week. We also organise several seminars and meet the industry people and get to learn from them. We interact with them and also clear our doubts on several subjects. This club really helped many of us in getting equipped with the subject. Many of my friends come here determined to make their career in entrepreneurship while some of the others come to know the subject in depth and would decide later about their career options.”
Sucheta Priyabadini, faculty in-charge of students’ activity centre, KIIT University, is more than elated at the progress made by the students. “In 2005, we hardly had any clubs for the students. But slowly some students came forward and asked us to form some clubs on different themes to carry forward their aspirations and hobby. We have always tried our best to give them the platform they needed. Now the scenario has drastically changed. The activities through these clubs help in shaping the personality of the students. The students learn to manage stress, funds, crisis among other things,” she said.
