Daringbadi: Dogs have time and again proved themselves to be the most loyal, kind, understanding and indomitable living creatures.
Defying the laws of nature, a pet dog and a goat calf have established an incredible friendship, thereby proving that humans aren’t the only creatures demonstrating emotions and traits. The unusual friendship between these two animals is quite an eye-opener.
This amazing incident has been reported from Mundigaon village under Katingia panchayat in Kandhamal district. This bonding between the carnivorous and herbivorous animals has attracted the attention of the locals, who are thronging the village to get a close look and understanding of this unique friendship.
According to samiti member Karam Singh Nayak, recently many goats in the village succumbed to an unknown disease. Purnachandra Mallick, a farmer whose goat died due to the mysterious disease, was worried when the dead goat left behind a calf 15 days back.
Following the death of the mother goat, the calf was left battling for life without mother’s milk. Its condition deteriorated fast as it did not take food for a prolonged period. Left with no option, Mallick gave the calf Amul but it refused to drink it. As a result, the calf began to become feebler.
Purnachandra lost all hopes of reviving the calf, but much to his surprise, his pet dog came to his rescue. One day, while he was sitting at his verandah of his house and thinking of the calf, his eyes struck on an unusual sight.
He spotted his pet dog feeding milk to the calf. After being left by its mother, the calf had found himself a most unusual ally without Mallick’s knowledge. It had developed a serious bonding with Mallick’s pet dog. Impressed by this bonding, he decided to keep the calf and the dog together.
Now, the dog not only feeds the calf, but also takes good care of it. Since the time they met, the two have been inseparable. They sleep and play together. The calf is now in good health.
“I was worried and expected the calf to die, as it did not take Amul. But, I was surprised by the sight when I saw my pet dog feeding its milk to the calf. I think it is God’s own way of saving the calf,” Mallick said. This should be an eye-opener for humans, the local sarpanch said. PNN
