Balasore, Feb 6: Nilagiri police have allegedly not registered a case against the accused people in connection with the mysterious death of a man at his in-laws’ house, even though the incident had happened a week ago.
Narayan Mallick, son of Bansidhar Mallick of Banaparia, was found dead with bleeding injuries at his father-in-law’s residence at Chandipur January 31. The in-laws claimed that Narayan died after a fall while going to toilet, but the deceased’s father accused the in-laws of beating his son to death. He had also filed a complaint with Nilagiri police station in this regard.
Despite this, when police did not act against the accused, Bansidhar Friday held a press meet and alleged that the police have not yet registered a case against the accused persons.
Police sources said that Narayan had married in 2012 and two months after his marriage, he stayed separately from his family at a rented house at Juruda. January 30, Narayan had gone to his father-in-law’s house. He was found in a moribund condition in the toilet. He succumbed while he was being shifted to hospital.
Bansidhar, however, alleged that his son was beaten to death. He also alleged that he had given a complaint to the police, but the latter refused to accept it. The police, however, made another person write a complaint on which he (Bansidhar) was forced to sign, he said.
However, Nilagiri IIC Kartik Mallick refuted the allegation, saying that a case has been registered and an investigation into the matter is on.
He also said that given the circumstantial evidence and statements of the neighbours, the matter is suspected to be an accident. “The exact reason of his death will be known after getting the post-mortem report,” the IIC added.
