Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police Wednesday rescued a 24-year-old girl from Balasore who was allegedly abducted by her spurned lover June 28 and arrested the accused.
The victim, who hails from Kupari area of Balasore district, was staying at Chintamanishwar area here with her uncle and was working in a private company at Chandrasekharpur area.
Sources said accused Manas Behera of Balasore wanted to marry the victim. However, Manas had kidnapped the girl from Rajmahal Square after his proposal was rejected by the victim’s family.
The victim’s father had lodged a complaint with Laxmisagar police accusing Manas of kidnapping his daughter.
With no action from cops in sight, the victim’s father contacted DCP Satyabrat Bhoi. The case was then transferred to Capital police who conducted raids at several places in search of the girl.
Sources said the accused was traced at Soro in Balasore district along with the girl. Capital police produced the accused in a court here Wednesday.
