Abducted Nabarangpur bizman freed after six days

Nabarangpur: Six days after being kidnapped, a known businessman and MP representative for Nandahandi block in this district, Sadashiv Sahoo alias Sunil, was set free by his abductors Monday evening.

Sunil’s abductors released him along with his vehicle at Jaynagar, four km from Jeypore, at 7 pm. He first went to his nephew’s residence at Irrigation Colony and from there he informed his family about his release. Later he reached his house here at about 9 pm and was administered with first aid.

Recounting what had happened on that fateful day, Sunil said, “After having ‘prasad’ at Nabarangpur Jagannath temple Thursday noon I went to Dangarbheja (Nandahandi) block office. After finishing some work there, I was returning home when the abductors- ten or so in number– waylaid me. Before overpowering me and taking me with them after blindfolding me with a piece of cloth, we had a scuffle for 5 to 7 minutes.”

They took his gold chain weighing 17 grams and Rs 35, 000 and kept him captive for five days with eyes blindfolded.

They used a white Scorpio and a motorcycle in the crime, Sunil said. “As the police intensified the raids and patrolling, they were left with no choice than to release me,” he informed.

Sunil is a resident of Dangarbheja village under Nandahandi block. Expanding his business, he has found a hotel in Nabarangpur. After leaving the Congress camp, he along with his followers joined the BJD and now he is known as a close aide of Nabarangpur MP and MLA. For his business and other purposes he shuttles between Dangarbheja and Nabarangpur towns.
