Abhishek advances, as others make exits

Bhubaneswar: Abhishek Mohapatra of Orissa was the only shining beacon as he defeated statemate Pratyush Mohanty 6-2, 7-5 while all the other players lost their respective matches of the AITA-OTA Championship Series tennis tournament here, Tuesday.

In the boys’ U-14 singles pre-quarterfinals, Orissa’s Yashdeep Roy lost to R Siddharth Rao (CH) 0-6, 1-6 while in the girls’ U-14 singles pre-quarterfinals, Akshaya Matta lost to Doddi Satvika (AP) 0-6, 0-6.

Wrestlers felicitated

Manas Ranjan Behera, Mihir Ranjan Behera and Manoranjan Behera of Mayurbhanj district were felicitated Tuesday by the Mayurbhanj Athletic Association for their medal-winning feats at the 63rd State Wrestling Championships, played here January 20-21.

Out of five Mayurbhanj participants, Manas had claimed silver while Mihir and Manoranjan had bagged bronze medals each in their respective categories. It was also a historic moment for the district as the success came after 36 years.
