20 persons suffer from mysterious disease

Kendrapara: Panic struck the villagers, as nearly 20 Dalits fell sick with a mysterious disease at Keutakandia village under Laxminarayanpur GP under Derabish PHC. The affected were suffering since the last couple of days from fever, vomiting, abdomen pain and skin irritation.

Some of the affected have been identified as Hrudananda Sethy (58), Rukmani Sethy (49), Muna Sethy (28), Narayan Sethy (60), Manas Sethy (30), Maanoj Kumar Sethy (31), Bili Sethy (70), Jyotsnarani Sethy (42), Ranjita Sethy (28), Suma Sethy (40), Bishnu Charan Sethy(71) and others. Even some children were suffering from fever, abdomen pain, vomiting and skin irritation.

Some of the affected persons are undergoing treatment at Cuttack.

Acting on the information, CDMO of Kendrapara, Baisnab Charan Sahu directed the Derabish PHC medical in-charge Tapan Kumar Sahu  to visit to the affected village with a medical team to take stock of the situation and to provide treatment to the patients.

A medico team led by Tapan  Kumar Sahu visited the affected village and collected blood samples, along with carrying out malaria-slide test for the patients. As per the examination report and symptoms of the patients, it was found that the patients are suffering from viral fever, said Baisnab Charan Sahu, the CDMO of Kendrpara.

As per the report submitted by the medical officer in-charge of Derabis PHC, as many as six patients were suffering from viral fever. The medical team has distributed medicines to the patients .The situation is under control. The health department has been keeping a close eye on the development, informed the CDMO of Kendrapara.   PNN
