Bhanjanagar, June 16: Out of the total 120 model schools proposed to be opened in the State, Ganjam district will have 11 of them, said Ganjam district education officer (DEO) Sanatan Panda Monday.
Work of six schools is half-completed, while construction has not started yet in Bhanjanagar, Belaguntha, Jagannathprasad and Buguda. Block education officers have been temporarily appointed as principals of the model schools. Furniture has been provided in two schools.
Meanwhile, advertisements have been published to fill up the vacancies of teachers. After completion of the formalities, the government will finalise the date for admission of students.
CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) course will be followed in model schools. Each school will have Class-VI to Class-X. Each class will have two sections with a maximum of 40 students in each section. The students will be selected by lottery system in case the candidates seeking admission in a particular school is more than its strength. Model schools in Bhanjanagar and Belaguntha blocks will be established with the assistance from Tata company.
Land has not been identified yet for the model school in Bhanjanagar block. The school requires over 6 acre of land. However, according to official sources, the town does not have such a huge stretch of land. Even though a few pieces of land are there at a distant location from the town, the quality of soil is not good for construction of building. The work in the block will be started after identification of proper location for the school, the DEO informed.
The DEO had discussed about the progress of the work with the officials of education department of Belaguntha and Bhanjanagar blocks.
Meanwhile, residents demanded that hostel facility be provided in model schools as most of the schools are being established outside the township area. The students interested to study in these schools from far-off places will face difficulties without hostel facility.
