Odagaon: A youth was arrested Saturday on charges of abducting and raping a minor girl at Bahadajhola area near Odagaon in Nayagarh district.
The accused was identified as Himanshu Nayak (22), son of Hadu Nayakof Khairalajhola village under Jagannathprasad block in Ganjam district.
A case was registered and the accused was produced in a court. He was sent to judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea.
According to reports, the incident occurred June 16 evening.
Due to excess heat following power cut, the 17-year-old girl had gone to the terrace of the house with her family members. Later, she went back to the house to serve dinner for her grandmother.
At that time, the accused allegedly abducted the girl. Later, when the girl’s parents came home, they couldn’t find her.
After a frantic search, they came to know that Himanshu abducted the girl and kept her at his relative’s house.
