Jagatsinghpur: Two persons were convicted and also sentenced to rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 14-years Monday by a court in Jagatsinghpur district in the sensational acid attack case on Pramodini Roul.

A source said that the assistant sessions and women court Judge Rashmita Sahu found prime accused Santosh Bedant and Anil alias Biswajit Dalasinghray guilty in the case and sounded the verdict.

Judge Sahu also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on the two convicts. In case of any default in payment, the convicts would be jailed for an additional period of nine months each, the court judgement read.

It is pertinent to mention here that the heinous acid attack incident taken place in 2009, April 18 had wrecked havoc across Odisha. Pramodini, then a college girl from Kanakpur under Tirtol police limits in the district, was attacked with acid when she was returning home.

Santosh who was an army jawan had one-sidedly proposed for love which was subsequently turned down by Pramodini. Being revengeful with the denial, the convict had thrown acid on the victim’s face.

Pramodini had sustained 80 per cent burn injuries in the attack.
