Admin clamps Section-144 amid simmering tension in Facor plant

Bhadrak: The district administration here clamped prohibitory orders under Section-144 around the Facor-owned plant at Randia under Rural police limits in this district Wednesday after two of its employees sustained critical burn injuries while charging the blast furnace in the plant, the previous day. The injured were identified as Purna Chandra Sutar of Korant village and Bijay Mohapatra of Barpada village in the district. Both were engaged as charging operators in the plant. They sustained critical burn injuries after being engulfed in flames while charging the blast furnace, Tuesday evening. They were first rushed to the district headquarters hospital and then shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Later, they were shifted in an air ambulance to National Burns Centre in Mumbai by building a green corridor to Bhubaneswar airport, Wednesday. Tension continued to simmer Wednesday in the area. Irate people burnt tyres outside the plant gate, staged road blockades and gave away slogans following the incident. The incident also led to a face-off between the police and agitators. Apprehending the law and order situation, the district administration Wednesday clamped prohibitory order Section-144 within 200-metre radius of the plant gate and its compound wall. The prohibitory order will remain in force from 6 am April 12 till 6 am April 14. Balasore SP Sagarika Nath, SDPO Sourav Ota, and other police officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

Over 20 police officials including City DSP Anshuman Dwivedi, DSP Sarthak Ray, DSP (DIB) Kamal Lochan Bhuyan, Rural police IIC Amitav Das and five platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot and are keeping a watch on the unfolding situation.
