Admin recovers Rs 35 lakh from beneficiaries

Basudevpur:  The administration of Basudevpur block in Bhadrak district has initiated efforts to spur the beneficiaries of Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) and Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY) in 32 panchayats to complete their housing units in an expeditious manner.

Meanwhile, the block administration has managed to recover Rs 35, 50,087 from many beneficiaries of IAY, BPGY, Special IAY and Mo Kudia Yojana who had not completed their houses despite having received funds for the purpose during 2001-02 to 2014-15.

The beneficiaries had spent the funds on different purposes. Taking serious note of the misutilization of IAY houses, the central government had earlier directed the state government to ensure that the funds are utilised in the right manner.

On the other hand, the state government had directed the block administration to recover funds from the beneficiaries who have not completed their housing units.

Following the directive, Basudevpur block development officer (BDO) Abinash Rout toured various panchayats and insisted the beneficiaries on completing their houses. He had also asked them to pay back the funds for not completing their houses.

Finally, the block administration managed to recover over Rs 35 lakh from beneficiaries—Rs 29,97, 203 towards IAY, Rs 1.22 lakh towards BPGY and Rs 4,30,875 towards special IAY. These beneficiaries had received funds in three phases.

Sources said these beneficiaries will be allotted IAY houses this year. About 251 beneficiaries have been identified for re-allotment of houses, the sources added.   PNN
