Admin’s novel way to rehab women bootleggers

Sambalpur: The district administration has initiated a novel way to rehabilitate women  involved in bootlegging work in Sambalpur district. It is the first district in the state to take such an initiative.

Even as the government is paying much importance to woman empowerment, but it has been seen the women are forced to involve themselves in illegal trade affairs. So Sambalpur district administration has decided to rehabilitate the women in the district by giving him different job opportunities.

Taking action on the decision Collector Shubham Saxena has organised a meeting taking the women in the district who are involved in illegal liquor trade.

The meeting was organised at office of the Deputy Director of Horticulture. 35 women from all the blocks of the district had taken part in this programme.

The collector has asked the women to suggest various income generating activities.  From them most of the women suggested for doing Tea business and Ration Centers.

From the 35, two women claimed to provide special income generating training programme for their children by the state government.

It was also learnt that scores of poor tribal women are into this illegal business just to eke out their living. For which they are facing legal action and social ostracisms most of the time. The new initiative of the administration is expected to encourage these women to give up such illegal activities and take off new income generation activities.

In the first phase the district administration has decided to give impact training to those 35 women who were the part of the meeting.

District Excise Superintendent Harishchandra Sethi, District Cordinator of ORMAS Srimanta Hota, DRDA APD Priyambada Guru and Sabyasachi panda had taken part in the meeting.
