Adulterated wheat new scare in market

Boudh: Even as the jolt from Chinese plastic eggs and plastic cabbage is yet to settle down, reports of adulterated wheat sold in the market have spread terror among consumers here in this district.

The first such report surfaced in Boudh town. The matter came to the fore after many consumers raised an alarm in the town. Later, the Boudh lawyer association lodged a complaint in the court and with the administration.

The report came to the fore after Om Prakash, a lawyer, fell victim to the adulterated wheat termed ‘Sherawali Sarvottam Atta’ sold in the local market. The wheat does not get mixed properly with water and turns black.

Even as it is yet to be confirmed, reports of the wheat being sold in the market have affected sales of wheat.

Many consumers termed the act as inhumane as they are being poisoned in the name of food. They demanded immediate verification of the products and stringent action against the manufacturers.

The lawyer association asked the court to take the issue seriously and take appropriate action to stop supply of fake product to the market.

The administration swung into action and sealed the wheat making factory. The so-called adulterated wheat was seized and sent for examination. Necessary action will be taken after the laboratory test, an official said.  PNN
