Agency roped in to push investment

Bhubaneswar: The state government, which has been eyeing a presence in the global industries and investment map, has hired marketing communication agency J Walter Thompson in its bid to promote ‘Brand Orissa’ as an investment destination of choice.

Industries department principal secretary Sanjiv Chopra Tuesday made a presentation regarding the promotion of ‘Brand Orissa’ at the secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, according to sources in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

The state government aims to maximise untapped economic potential by leveraging its strength, said industries department officials. The government has identified five sectors such as downstream and ancillary, textile, ESDM, food processing & plastics, and chemicals & petrochemicals as focus sectors for investment.

Orissa has a faster growth rate than the national average, Chopra said during his presentation, adding that the state is rapidly improving on ‘ease of doing business’ and has abundant resources and relatively low cost of setting up and running business.

The state has 18 per cent share in India’s FDI proposals. It is the largest steel producer in India and Bhubaneswar has been marked as safest state capital to live in, Chopra pointed out.

Officials said ‘Orissa Vision 2019’ aims for industrial development through manufacturing and envisages 60 per cent increase in the manufacturing sector.Officials of the department said a logo is also being designed for ‘Brand Orissa’.
