Baripada: Around 15 students of Mukunda High School under Morada block in Mayurbhanj walked from their hostel to the Collectorate Sunday to apprise the Collector about the allegedly miserable conditions they are living in.
They had walked five kilometre when the district welfare officer Smrutiranjan Samantray and other officials intercepted them and enquired about the matter.
The students demanded dismissal of some of the school staff and insisted on meeting the Collector.
Samantray assured the students of an investigation into their complaint following which the students were calmed and returned to school.
It may be mentioned here that a similar incident was reported at Kendua government primary school under Shyamakhunta block in the district a few days ago. The students had long been suffering due to lack of basic facilities at the hostel and had often drawn attention of the authorities concerned towards their problems, but nothing was done.
Thus, frustrated, around 17 students of the school walked 15 km to reach district headquarters Baripada and conveyed their grievances to ADM Aboli Narwane and sub-Collector Divyajyoti Parida.
