New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, is now improving its record in patient care and rate of treatment, the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry says.
The ministry claims that the premier Central government hospital is now reaching out to more patients every day and the dependence of people from Odisha on AIIMS, New Delhi for treatment has decreased.
“There has been a steep decline in the number of patients coming from Bhubaneswar and other smaller cities of the country with the advent of premier hospitals in regional centres,” Union Health Minister JP Nadda said while talking about the achievements of the health ministry in the last four years.
When asked about the performance of the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, Union Health Secretary Preeti Sudan told Orissa POST, “AIIMS, Bhubaneswar is performing well. It is treating a good number of people per day both inpatients and outpatients.”
She added, “AIIMS Bhubaneswar is now working quite well in their outreach programme. It is not only reaching out to more people but also has helped in establishing a good brand name in their region.”
Nadda said that the health ministry has been working towards tackling the issue of shortage of doctors at new AIIMS like Bhubaneswar AIIMS. He said, “We have devised a new policy to offer senior resident students studying at any AIIMS to be appointed as full time doctors there to propagate the AIIMS culture.”
The health minister elaborated that to ensure that AIIMS students get absorbed in their own hospitals, the regional AIIMS selection committees have been given the freedom to select doctors after interviews and ratification by the Governing Body headed by the Union Health Minister would be done later so that the qualified doctors do not have to wait for offers from AIIMS.
The minister also said that the ministry has planned regular migration of AIIMS Delhi faculty to all new AIIMS and vice versa for maintaining uniformity and quality in all the new AIIMS across the country.
