New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), New Delhi, Tuesday undertook skin grafting on one of the segregated conjoined twins from Orissa – Jaga – to repair parts of his skull.
A team of doctors Tuesday started the procedure at 9:30 am which went on for around three hours. During the procedure, attempts were made to repair some parts of the skull which was directly operated during the segregation surgery.
A team of six doctors from AIIMS undertook the procedure in which small sections of the skin from his hands and legs were taken for grafting to fill the void left during the last plastic surgery procedure. This is going to be the last surgery for Jaga before his discharge from hospital which is expected soon.
The doctors’ panel which undertook the grafting had plastic surgeons, a neurologist, a anesthisist and a pediatrician and paramedics.
Doctors believe that skin grafting can help to overcome some effects of the surgery which affected the skull of Jaga. Jaga has shown good progress in health after the segregation surgery. Doctors looking after him are looking out for ways to ensure that he is healthy.
