Cuttack: The special task force of the Crime Branch (CB) submitted the final charge sheet against suspected terrorist of Al Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) Abdur Rehman in Salipur judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court here Monday.
Rehman was brought under tight security and produced before JMFC Kailash Chandra Sahu at 9.25am. The investigating officer of STF and SP Prasant Kumar Bhoi and DSP Priya Ranjan Satpathy submitted the 574-page charge sheet in the court as per the earlier direction.
Meanwhile, the JMFC has transferred the case to the district and session judge court because the Sections framed against Rehman by the CB is trial able in the district and session judge court, sources said. The court has sent Rehman to Choudwar jail. Now the hearing of the case will begin at the district and session court.
The CB during investigation learnt that Rehman was indulged in treason activities, conspiring against the nation, training youths for terrorism and providing funds for it. “On the basis of the probe, the final charge sheet has been filed in the court,” said special DG (crime) Bijay Kumar Sharma, adding, some other records related to the case will be submitted in the court in the next hearing.”
Moreover, the CB has given a 121-page records (police paper) pertaining to the case to Rehman’s counsel Satyaranjan Mulia.
Sources said one and a half year after arresting Rehman the CB has filed the charge sheet against him under Sections 17, 18, 18 (B) and 20 of IPC and under unlawful activities prevention act. The CB had filed the preliminary charge sheet against Rehman December 28, 2016. Rehman was produced before Salipur JMFC as an undertrial prisoner thrice. Subsequently, the STF took over the case.
