Alcoholic man killed by wife, son in Ganjam

Bhanjanagar, Jan 1: An alcoholic man was killed by his wife and son late Thursday night at Patadhar village under Jagannathprasad police limits in Ganjam district as the duo couldn’t tolerate his torture anymore.

Police seized the body of Bidyadhar Naik (45) and sent it to a local hospital for post-mortem. Based on a complaint lodged by his elder brother Parama, a case has been registered, police said, adding Bidyadhar’s son Punia was detained in this connection.

Preliminary investigation suggests regular torture inflicted by Bidyadhar on his wife and son under the influence of alcohol led to the incident, Jagannathprasad police station inspector in-charge Sushant Sethi said.

According to reports, Bidyadhar, a resident of Lunijhola, started staying at Patadhar a year ago. He used to beat up his wife and son after consuming liquor and repeated the act Thursday evening. As other family members resisted his action, he left home.

However, he came back again in the dead of the night and beat up his wife Tukuna and son. Losing their cool, the mother-son duo strangulated Bidyadhar to death. They hanged the body from the roof to give the incident a colour of suicide, the report said.

Meanwhile, Bidyadhar’s brother came to know about the incident Friday morning and lodged a complaint with the police alleging his younger brother was murdered.   PNN
