Daringbadi: An intoxicated man allegedly assaulted his elderly parents severely and drove them out of their house in the Maoist infested Sonepur village of this block in Kandhamal district, police said Saturday.
The victims are 85-year-old Ghasiram Behera Dalai and his 75-year old wife Kasturi Behera Dalai.
The son who has not been identified threatened them with dire consequences if they attempt to enter the house again.
Left with no option, the couple has taken shelter on the verandah of the Daringbadi Police Station after walking all the way from their village Thursday. They met IIC Alekh Gardia and narrated their ordeal with tears rolling down their cheeks.
The sorrow and anguish in their eyes were evident as they vowed not to return to their village.
The couple has not eaten anything since Wednesday, and were allowed to move into the reception room of the police station.
The timing of the incident has sent shockwaves in the area as people were busy celebrating Durga Puja.
As the village is situated in a remote corner of the block and is Maoist infested, the police have not arrested the son so far.
