Athamallick: The massive road mishap September 9 where 20 passengers were killed and 30 others left injured has ignited a feeling of awareness among masses.
People are watching out for rash driving on roads as in many cases reckless driving is the reason for such mishaps. In one such case, passengers got down from a moving bus and handed the bus alcoholic driver to police.
According to sources, a private bus ‘Sivam’ was on its way to Bamur from Athamallick Saturday. At least 60 passengers were on board the vehicle. Noticing the driver’s attitude, many came to know that he was driving the vehicle in a drunken state.
Furious passengers stopped the vehicle and got down the bus and alerted local police who reached the spot and arrested the driver and seized the vehicle. The accused driver was identified as Dhrubacharan Nayak of Sandapal village under Kishorenagar police limits.
Nayak reportedly confessed to have had taken alcohol. All necessary documents regarding the vehicle were checked and Nayak detained, sources said. PNN
