Mathili, April 16: All the ten persons abducted by Maoists from three villages under Mathili block in Malkangiri district two days ago have been released. “The Maoists produced them before a Praja Court and then freed,” police said Thursday.
The Praja Court was held inside the forest near Tulsi hills. It found that nine persons except former block chairperson Trinath Bhumia were guilty of passing on information about Maoists to security agencies. These men also confessed before the court that they were cooperating with the police and explained that they were doing so only to avoid arrest.
The men gave an assurance that they would not indulge in such activities in future, following which the Maoists freed them from captivity.
Meanwhile, a Maoist leader Binod Kashyap, under whose supervision the Praja court was held, told the media that the police have arrested a person by name Irma several weeks ago but he has not been produced before the court. Kashyap demanded immediately production of Irma before the court. He stated that the outfit will continue its fight for protecting land, forest and water. He also warned that those who work against the interests of the outfit would be punished before the Praja Court.
