Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has sent a medical team to Pallahara block of Anugola district following detection of scrub typhus cases, officials said Sunday.
During the last few days, 29 people in Sanbagadri village reportedly tested positive for scrub typhus on rapid kit tests, which are not confirmatory.
Following the report, a medical team from Anugola visited Sanbagdhari and conducted door-to-door surveys to identify suspected cases, they said.
Scrub typhus is an infectious bacterial disease transmitted through the bites of infected larval mites.
In a statement, the Health Department said there is no need for panic regarding the reported scrub typhus cases in Anugola.
In the first phase, all 9 cases that had tested positive by rapid test have been confirmed as negative by the confirmatory ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test. The remaining samples are being validated through confirmatory ELISA testing, the statement said.
The medical team is already on the spot to assess the situation and ensure appropriate medical care, it said.
The department has taken precautionary measures, including active surveillance and public health interventions in the area.
The situation is under continuous monitoring, and all necessary steps are being taken to safeguard public health, it said.
